Congratulations Robert Jones:
Robert Jones, a speaker of the Advocates as Leaders Speakers Network, won a gold medal in Information Technology at the Skills USA Competition at Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, March, 25, 2017. Robert is planning to graduate in spring of 2018 with a degree in Information technology from Utah Valley University. He wants to either become a network administrator or a PC repair person.
The competition Robert was a part of was called Skills USA. Skills USA is a college competition that has students compete by putting them through a series of projects. When they complete their projects, the judges score them and award the student a medal. The Award Ceremony took place at Salt Lake Community College, while Robert’s event took place at the Granite Technical Institute. His favorite highlight of the competition was being surprised to win a gold medal in his division against 13 other
students. When the Judges announced the winners and when they said his name, Robert was surprised but he had a hunch that he won. Robert won a Banner that said Skills USA State Champion Information Technology Services. He also won a gold medal that said Skills USA Utah. He received a blue tooth and an Amazon Gift Card. Robert is off to nationals in Louisville, Kentucky June 19-24, 2017.
“It’s an honor for me,” said Robert about winning the gold medal. “I’m honored to be selected to go to nationals and win a gold medal for Utah”. Robert also says that he’s honored and grateful to compete against students.
