Independent Living Center Summer Conferences

The Utah Statewide Independent Living Council is partnering with all Independent Living Centers across the state as part of the centers’ summer programs. These one day “mini-conferences” are being held across the state. Spots are filling up fast for these sessions! Interested participants should reach out to the individual centers to sign up in their area.

Youth Summer Programs

Each independent living center in Utah is hosting a summer program filled with classes for youth (ages 14-22) to learn Independent Living skills. The classes are for those youth who are wanting to move out on their own someday or simply want to learn more about how to navigate adulthood. Contact your local Independent Living Center to learn more. Act fast! Some programs are already full and others are filling up quickly. There are still available spots at the following:

50th Anniversary of the UDDC

Since its founding, the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council has worked to make Utah a better place for individuals with disabilities, their families, and the communities in which we live! The Council has been advocating for people with disabilities for more than 50 years and so we want to celebrate with our community.

This community event will be held in early August 2021 in partnership with the Utah Parent Center. It will feature live music, face painting, arts and crafts, and community resources. Follow us on Facebook to learn more about this event!

Develop Abilities Podcast

The Utah Developmental Disabilities Council is now hosting a podcast called Develop Abilities. This podcast will cover different topics like disability history, health relationships, and so much more.

The first episode features Matt Wappett, from the Center for Persons with Disabilities, discussing the history of disability in America and the movements that have helped shape modern life.

Free Training Program! Sign up today!

The Utah Developmental Disabilities Council is currently recruiting for the next cohort in our Advocacy Leadership Policy Success (ALPS) Program. This project focuses on policy and advocacy and how to effect change in the systems that impact our daily lives.

The group meets once or twice per month from September to May. Participants are given opportunities to learn from mentors and become a mentor themselves while they learn about service systems, legislative processes, and advocacy skills.

2021 Advocacy Awards Nominations are Open!

 

The Utah Developmental Disabilities Council is now accepting applications for their advocacy awards. If you know someone who is a self-advocate, a parent or a community member that has worked hard for the disability community then this award is for them.

Applications are due at noon on July 15, 2021. Click here for the application and more information.

The awards will be handed out at the Golden Key Awards event in October 2021.
